Pick Up Your Bike in Fisherman’s Wharf

Your adventure begins at our Fisherman’s Wharf shop, the most convenient and bike-friendly starting point in the city. After a quick and friendly check-in, our team will fit you with the perfect bike, make sure the seat height feels right, and walk you through how to use the gears and brakes confidently. We’ll go over a detailed map, highlight the safest and most scenic routes, and recommend the best itinerary based on your comfort level, timing, weather, and interests. Whether you’re planning to cross the Golden Gate Bridge, visit Golden Gate Park, or explore the waterfront, you’ll leave the shop feeling fully prepared and excited.

Cruise the Waterfront & Marina District

Once you roll out of the Wharf, your ride begins on a beautiful, flat waterfront path that makes easing into your day incredibly enjoyable. You’ll pass Aquatic Park, historic Fort Mason, and the Marina Green all with sweeping views of Alcatraz, Angel Island, the Bay, and sailboats gliding past. This stretch is relaxing, beginner-friendly, and one of the most photogenic rides in the city. If it’s your first time biking in San Francisco, this is the perfect warm-up.

Enter the Presidio & Ride Toward the Golden Gate Bridge

From the Marina, you’ll transition into the Presidio, a former military base turned national park filled with forests, coastal overlooks, and wide bike paths. Take your time here — there are benches, viewpoints, and unbeatable opportunities for photos of the Golden Gate Bridge. Follow your map’s clearly marked route as it guides you gently uphill to the official bike entrance to the bridge. This section is scenic, safe, and a guest favorite.

Bike Across the Golden Gate Bridge

Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge by bike is one of the most iconic experiences you can have in San Francisco. Ride along the designated bike-only lane, completely separate from vehicle traffic, and soak in dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean, Marin Headlands, San Francisco skyline, and the sparkling Bay below. You’ll find multiple points where you can safely stop for unforgettable photos. Whether it’s foggy and mysterious or bright and sunny, this stretch is the highlight of the day for most riders.

Coast Down to Sausalito (Optional Sausalito Drop-Off)

After reaching the north side of the bridge, enjoy a beautiful downhill ride into Sausalito, a charming waterfront village known for its sunshine, boutiques, art galleries, and incredible restaurants along the Bay. You can choose to explore at your own pace, enjoy lunch with views of the water, and relax in a totally different atmosphere than the city. When you’re done, you have options: return your bike in Sausalito for a small drop-off fee, take the ferry back to San Francisco for an additional fee, or ride back across the bridge on your bike if you’re up for more adventure.

Add Golden Gate Park & Ocean Beach (Optional Loop)

If you still have time and energy, you can extend your day by exploring Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach. This loop takes you past gardens, lakes, museums, bison paddocks, and forested trails before arriving at the Pacific Ocean. It’s quiet, peaceful, and perfect for riders who want to see the city’s greener side. Thanks to your included map and route suggestions, you’ll have everything you need to navigate comfortably.

Return Your Bike & Explore Fisherman’s Wharf

When you’re ready to wrap up your adventure, return your bike to our Fisherman’s Wharf shop — or to Sausalito if you chose the drop-off option. Once back in the Wharf, you can grab a meal, enjoy dessert at Ghirardelli Square, browse local shops, or explore nearby neighborhoods like North Beach. It’s the perfect way to end a day full of views, fresh air, and unforgettable sights.

FAQS AND RENTAL DETAILS

WHERE DO I PICK UP MY BIKE?

You’ll pick up your bike at our conveniently located Fisherman’s Wharf shop at 2715 Hyde St., right on the waterfront. This is the best starting point in the entire city for exploring San Francisco by bike — from here, you’re already steps away from iconic routes to the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio, Crissy Field, and Golden Gate Park.
After booking, you’ll receive a confirmation email with detailed walking directions, parking recommendations, and public transit options so it’s easy to arrive on time and stress-free.

What time should I arrive?

We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before your rental time. This allows our team to fit your bike properly, adjust your seat height, give you a quick safety run-through, review route options, help you choose between a regular bike and an e-bike, and answer any questions — all without rushing. Arriving early ensures the start of your ride feels smooth, relaxed, and enjoyable.

Can I choose between a regular bike and an e-bike?

Absolutely. You can choose whichever type of bike fits your comfort level and adventure style.

Regular bikes are ideal for riders who want a classic biking experience on scenic, mostly flat waterfront paths. They’re great for casual riders and families who plan to explore at a relaxed pace.

E-bikes offer pedal-assist power that makes hills and long distances feel easy. They’re perfect if you want extra comfort crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, plan to ride to Sausalito or Golden Gate Park, or simply want to cover more ground with less effort.

If you’re unsure which to choose, our staff will help you select the best option based on your plans, experience, and timing.

What time does your shop open and close?

We are open 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM for bike pickups.
For returns, we offer a late-night drop-off option, so you can keep the bike as long as you’d like within the 24-hour rental period and return it when it’s convenient — even after the shop has closed.

Is this rental kid-friendly?

Yes — biking in San Francisco is one of the best family-friendly activities in the city, and we have multiple setup options to fit families of all sizes.

We offer children’s bikes for independent riders, tag-alongs for kids who can pedal but prefer support, trailers for younger children who can sit comfortably, baby seats for toddlers, and small-frame bikes for shorter riders or tweens.

Our staff will help you choose the safest setup for your family and make sure everyone feels comfortable before heading out.

Is there a specific height or weight requirement?

Our bikes are adjustable and fit a wide range of heights. If you’re tall, short, or somewhere in between, we’ll find the right bike for you.
Most of our bikes have a weight capacity of 300 pounds, and we’ll help you choose the model that provides the most comfortable and safe ride.

How long can I keep the bike?

Your rental is valid for 24 hours, and you can return the bike anytime, day or night, using our late-night drop-off system. This gives you total freedom to explore San Francisco on your own schedule.

Do you provide a map or recommended routes?

Yes — every rental includes a detailed, easy-to-follow map designed by our team of local cyclists.

The map highlights the safest bike paths, the most scenic waterfront viewpoints, optional detours, the step-by-step route to the Golden Gate Bridge, and directions to Sausalito. It also includes bathroom locations, food stops, beach access, and the best photo spots along the way.

Before you ride, our team will walk through the map with you, answer questions, and tailor recommendations based on your interests and comfort level.

Can I bike across the Golden Gate Bridge? Is it safe?

Yes — biking the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic and safest bike activities in San Francisco. There is a designated bike-only lane, completely separated from car traffic.

Our staff will explain exactly how to get onto the bridge, which side to ride on depending on the time of day, what to expect with wind or fog, how to navigate blind corners, and where the safest and most scenic photo stops are.

People of all skill levels bike the bridge every day, and e-bikes make it even easier for anyone concerned about stamina.

Can I drop my bike off in Sausalito?

Yes — you can end your ride in Sausalito for an additional drop-off fee. This option is extremely popular and perfect if you want to enjoy a relaxing afternoon by the water, browse shops, grab a meal, or avoid biking back uphill into the city.

We’ll provide clear directions to the Sausalito drop-off point and explain how to return to San Francisco.

Can I take my bike on the ferry back to San Francisco?

Yes. If you want to keep your bike with you, the ferry allows bikes onboard. This gives you the freedom to continue riding once you’re back in the city.

How do I return to San Francisco if I drop my bike in Sausalito?

You can take the Sausalito–San Francisco ferry, which runs throughout the day. The ferry drops you near the Embarcadero, close to multiple hotels and transit connections.

During check-in, we’ll review ferry schedules, how to board, best times to avoid crowds, and the two ferry operators (Blue & Gold Fleet and Golden Gate Ferry). We can provide direct links to their schedules as well.

What happens if I get a flat tire or have trouble during my ride?

You’re never on your own. Every rental includes direct phone support so you can reach our staff immediately if you need help.

We’ll talk you through quick fixes, arrange replacement bikes depending on your location, or assist you at our Sausalito drop-off site if you’re nearby. Most issues can be solved quickly so you can get back to enjoying your day.

What should I wear?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and layers, since San Francisco’s weather can change quickly between neighborhoods.
Bring sunglasses and sunscreen, and keep in mind that e-bikes generate a little extra breeze, so a light jacket is helpful — especially near the Golden Gate Bridge or the coast.

Do I need previous biking experience?

You don’t need to be an experienced cyclist. As long as you’re comfortable riding a bike and staying aware of your surroundings, you’ll do great.

Before you leave, we’ll help you test-ride the bike, adjust your seat, explain how to use the gears, and review the easiest and safest routes. If you want a little extra confidence, an e-bike makes the ride feel effortless, even on hills.

Do you offer baskets or storage?

Yes — all bikes come with a handlebar bag or rear rack that can hold small essentials like water bottles, jackets, cameras, snacks, or a small backpack.
If you have larger items, you’re welcome to store them securely in our shop while you’re out riding.

What if the weather is bad?

Fog, light mist, and coastal breeze are common in San Francisco and are part of the city’s charm — they also make for great photos.
If severe weather is expected, we’ll recommend alternative routes, provide ponchos if needed, or help you reschedule. Your comfort and safety are always our top priority.

You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your rental time.
