After a brief roll call, we’ll board the bus and travel to our first stop. Over the next 3 hours you’ll be treated to stories about the neighborhoods, diversity, and geography of the area. We will exit the bus at several stops for photo opportunities and exploration of the area.

In the early afternoon we will drop you off at Pier 39 in Fisherman’s Wharf, where our guide will provide some of our preferred lunch destinations; you will then meet at Pier 33 to collect your Alcatraz tickets – easy and informative directions will be given.

On your second day your guide will meet you outside Fisherman’s Wharf, once again, at your chosen tour time, making our way to the seaside town of Sausalito to enjoy lunch. The tour will then make its way to Muir Woods Redwood National Monument, where you will have 90-minutes to enjoy the beautiful redwoods. At the conclusion of the tour we will return you back to Fisherman’s Wharf in the late afternoon.

Here are the places we will be explore (photo stops noted by *):

1st Day –

Alcatraz*

Used as a federal prison between 1933-1964, Alcatraz housed some of the most dangerous criminals of the time, including Al Capone, James “Whitey” Bulger and George “Machine Gun” Kelly. Featuring unbelievable views of the San Francisco peninsula, a visit to the island is essential when in town.

Fisherman’s Wharf

One of San Francisco’s most popular destinations – from beautiful old shipyards, to Boudin’s Bakery and the legendary sea lions, Fisherman’s Wharf has it all.

North Beach – Little Italy

Voted as one of the USA’s “ten great neighborhoods”, North Beach is best known as the home of Little Italy. With delicious restaurants, bakeries and cafes, it is not to be missed!

Chinatown

Boasting the largest Chinatown in the United States, this 24-block mecca is bustling with energy, amazing food, and unique and colorful shops that give this area its charm.

City Hall

This beautiful Beaux-Arts monument epitomizes the high-minded American renaissance of the late 18th and early 19th century. The site of Joe Dimaggio and Marilyn Monroe’s marriage in 1954.

Twin Peaks*

Featuring a panoramic view of all of San Francisco, Twin Peaks offers ones of the best perspectives of the downtown skyline, surrounding hills and vistas (weather permitting).

Haight Ashbury*

The origin of the hippie culture and the birth place of the “Summer of Love.” From the stunning Painted Ladies to the homes of music’s favorite 60’s bands, this district started the counter-culture movement across the USA.

The Mission*

Known for its prominent and colorful mural installations, delicious food, and vibrant art and music scene, The Mission embodies the culture of old and new San Francisco.

The Castro

One of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the USA. Colorful bars & restaurants line the streets, with the historic Castro Theater overlooking the area Harvey Milk called home.

Pacific Heights*

Offering one of the most scenic outlooks in all of Northern California, Pacific Heights is home to Billionaire’s Row, featuring the estates of politicians and tech titans.

Fort Point*

Located just beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, Fort Point gives you a front row seat to the San Francisco Bay. This former military fortification was used during WWII.

Tenderloin

Nestled near downtown San Francisco, the Tenderloin neighborhood continues to resist gentrification, all while spearheading the local arts movement.

Presidio

Former military base, now a beautiful park that includes Crissy Field, Fort Point, Lucasfilm’s (George Lucas) headquarters and the Walt Disney Museum.

2nd Day –

Muir Woods*

Muir Woods National Monument is home to some of the oldest and most beautiful trees in the world. Features gorgeous walking trails and striking scenery.

Marin Headlands*

Offering a stunning perspective of the Golden Gate Bridge with downtown San Francisco in the background, this awe-inspiring view is the perfect place to capture a memorable photo.

Sausalito*

Located just across the Golden Gate Bridge, this artistic enclave has the setting and beauty of a European mediterranean town.

Golden Gate Bridge

Declared “one of the 10 wonders of the modern world,” the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most recognized symbols of San Francisco. Simply stunning!

Where To Meet

Have questions? Here’s the most frequently asked.

Does the 2-Day Special include the official Alcatraz Tour?

Yes, this tour includes the Official Alcatraz tour and round-trip ferry ride to Alcatraz.

Am I able to just do the Alcatraz portion of the tour?

Yes, both days will need to be purchased together. Alcatraz stipulates that tour companies combine Alcatraz tickets with a tour.

Where does the minibus pick-up and drop-off?

Pick-ups:

Our minibus tours pick-up in a convenient location in Fisherman’s Wharf. Your confirmation and reminder emails will contain our exact address and best ways to get there.

Drop-offs:

On both days we will drop you off in a convenient location in Fisherman’s Wharf near the meeting point.

Why don’t you provide hotel pick-ups:

We would love to pick everyone up from their hotel, but we find that having one convenient pick-up location in Fisherman’s Wharf  improves the quality of the tour.

Picking up multiple individuals before starting the tour would not be a pleasant experience for any of our guests, and sitting in traffic is not something we want you to start your tour off with.

Is there a parking garage near the starting point:

Yes, there are several parking garages located near our meeting point.

What is Muir Woods and Sausalito?

Muir Woods:

Muir Woods National Monument is located 20 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge and is home to some of the oldest and tallest living trees in the world.

This popular destination is part of the United States National Park service and is considered to be one of the most peaceful destinations in the Bay Area. We consider it to be one of the top highlights of the Dylan’s Famous Tour and A Day in the Bay tours.

Sausalito:

Located just across the Golden Gate Bridge, this artistic enclave has the setting and beauty of a European, mediterranean town. For both our Dylan’s Famous and A Day in the Bay Tours, you will enjoy your lunch on the picturesque waterfront, enjoying views of the San Francisco Bay.

“The little mini buses are very comfortable and not very crowded so you still get a personal feel to the tour.”

JENNY TYLER FROM PETERSBURG, MI
